Description of Significance THE OKMULGEE BLACK HOSPITAL, CONSTRUCTED IN 1922-1923, OPERATED AS A SEGREGATED HOSPITAL FOR OKMULGEES AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY FROM 1924 TO 1956. THIS SMALL HOSPITAL COULD HOUSE UP TO TWENTY-FIVE PATIENTS. UNIQUELY, THE STAFF OF THE HOSPITAL WAS ALSO AFRICAN AMERICAN. TODAY, IT IS THE OLDEST BLACK HOSPITAL BUILDING REMAINING IN OKLAHOMA. LISTED IN NATIONAL REGISTER 6/22/1984; ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTATION ACCEPTED 12/2007.
